Understanding Endocrinology

Endocrinologists evaluate disorders of hormone secretion and the organs that secrete them. At Overlake Internal Medicine Associates, we treat Endocrine disorders of adults (age 18 or older). Examples of some of the organ systems and diseases we treat are:

Pituitary: pituitary tumors and the evaluation of pituitary secretion (e.g. prolactinomas, acromegaly, Cushing's disease, pituitary insufficiency, diabetes insipidus)

Thyroid: over and underactive thyroid hormone production (e.g. Graves disease, toxic multinodular goiter, Hashimoto's disease), thyroid nodules, goiter, and thyroid cancer

Pancreas: diabetes and the evaluation of pancreatic hormone production

Adrenal: adrenal tumors and the evaluation of their secretion, cortisol deficiency and excess, androgen excess, catecholamine excess (pheochromocytoma), aldosterone excess

Gonadal steroids: male hypogonadism (low testosterone), menopausal symptoms, endocrine implications of PCOS(polycystic ovarian syndrome)

Bone: osteoporosis, osteomalacia

Cholesterol/lipids: hyperlipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia
