Raj C. Butani, M.D.

Dr. Raj Butani was born and raised in New Jersey and attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where he completed an accelerated six-year B.A/M.D. combined-degree program with the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now part of Drexel University College of Medicine). Following graduation from medical school, he spent the next six years completing his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. During this time, his accolades included an award for his outstanding teaching of medical students, the Outstanding Ambulatory Care Award and the Commander's Award for best original medical research  by a graduating trainee.

Following the completion of his training in 2002, Dr. Butani spent five years at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he served as Assistant Chief of Gastroenterology. During this tour, he also performed a one-year overseas deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, where he received the Combat Medical Badge and Bronze Star Medal for his service and performance. Following completion of his deployment duties, he was appointed as a Clinical Instructor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and he completed advanced training in Gastroenterology at the UCSF-San Francisco General Hospital in 2006. In 2007, Dr. Butani completed his Army service in Hawaii, relocated to the Seattle area and began work at Overlake Internal Medicine Associates in September.

Dr. Butani is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and has been published in well-known peer review medical journals, to include the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In addition, he is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Association of Physicians of Indian origin.

Dr. Butani is married and has two sons. He is able to speak some Sindhi, Spanish and Hindi. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, running, 80's music, and spending time with his family and friends. He is excited about his relocation to the Seattle metro area and looks forward to providing high-quality health care to his patients.
