Darshana Shanbhag, M.D.

Dr. Shanbhag joined Overlake Internal Medicine Associates in 2000. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine in both the U.S. and India. After earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bombay, she earned an advanced medical degree from the University of Bombay. While a student, she earned distinctions in anatomy, pharmacology and forensic medicine. Her community work included providing primary care to the poor in Bombay as well in rural areas of India.

Following board certification in India, Dr. Shanbhag came to the U.S. to complete an additional residency program at the University of Missouri at Columbia, whereupon she became board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She holds memberships with both the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

“I consider Internal Medicine my calling because in taking care of my patients, I come into contact with numerous medical disciplines: cardiology, neurology and infectious diseases, for example. As your health advocate, it is my role to sort through all of this information and help you make the best choices.”

Dr. Shanbhag was born and raised in Bombay, India, and have lived in the United States for many years. Away from the office, she spends as much time as possible with her husband and young daughter, engages in tennis and outdoor sports, and enjoys the quieter pursuits of reading and watching movies.
