Overlake Medical Center & Clinics earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for the sixth, consecutive reporting cycle from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that sets standards for excellence in patient care. Leapfrog assigns a grade—“A” through “F”—to 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems each hospital has in place to prevent harm.

“At Overlake, our top priority is being able to provide the safest, highest-quality care possible to all of our patients,” said Overlake President and CEO J. Michael Marsh. “I also commend Overlake’s “just culture,” which fosters an environment where staff feel they can report patient safety improvement opportunities without fear of repercussion.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries, which kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Overlake made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
